Gamertag Generator
A gamertag gets read off a kill feed in half a second and shouted across voice chat, so it has to be short and sayable. This generator keeps every idea at 12 characters or fewer (the Xbox limit) and leans on punchy two-word shapes like adjective + noun.

Xbox gamertag username rules
- 1–12 characters.
- Up to 12 characters; letters, numbers and single spaces.
- If the name is taken, Xbox adds a # number suffix instead of refusing it.
Reviewed Sep 2026 against Xbox gamertag help. The generator applies these rules automatically.

Tips
- Say it out loud once. If a teammate would have to ask "how do you spell that?", keep looking.
- Xbox no longer refuses a taken gamertag; it adds a # number suffix. A distinctive base name means fewer people share your suffix.
- Skip trends with a short shelf life. A name tied to this season’s meme ages fast.
- Keep one base name across Xbox, PSN, Steam and Discord so friends can find you everywhere.
FAQ
How long can an Xbox gamertag be?
Up to 12 characters, not counting the # suffix Xbox adds when the name is already in use. Letters, numbers and single spaces are allowed (reviewed Sep 2026 against Xbox Support).
Can I get a gamertag without numbers?
Set Numbers to "None" in the generator. Because Xbox appends a suffix to duplicates, you can still claim a popular word; it will just carry a #number.
Does this check if a gamertag is taken?
No. We only check the format. Xbox shows availability when you type a name on its change-gamertag page, which we link below.
