Or a style
Ask the name smith
Word banks are fast, but they don’t know you. Describe yourself or paste a name you’re unsure about, and our AI helper writes personal ideas or an honest review. It never checks availability and won’t write offensive or brand-impersonating names.
Up to 12 requests per 10 minutes. What you type is sent to our AI provider to answer, and not stored by us.
How the generator builds names
Every style has two small word banks: descriptive words and things. The generator picks a shape (adjective + noun, noun + noun, “The” + two words, or your own word in front or behind), applies the letter case you chose, joins the words with your separator, and sometimes adds a short number. Then it throws away anything outside your length range or the platform’s rules.
Because it runs in your browser, there is no daily limit, no sign-up and no wait. The first batch on each page is fixed so the page loads with ideas; every shuffle after that is random.
Four habits of handles that last
- Under 15 characters. That fits X, Snapchat and Minecraft, the strictest common limits.
- Sayable. If you have to spell it out on voice chat, it will be mistyped.
- Portable. Letters and numbers only work everywhere; symbols don’t.
- Private. Leave out your surname, birth year and town.

Why every short username is taken
Drag the sliders. The first number counts every possible string. The second counts only ones you could say out loud (a consonant–vowel rhythm like kovan). Compare that to how many accounts a big platform holds.
All possible strings
12 million
Pronounceable ones
287 thousand
Accounts vs. sayable names
There are more accounts than pronounceable names this long. Every one of them could already be gone.
That’s why generators combine two real words, add a separator, or tack on a number: each trick multiplies the space. Two words from banks of 1,000 each give a million combinations before any digits.
Username rules by platform
Length limits and allowed symbols differ a lot. Use this as a quick reference, or paste a name into the username checker to test it against all of them at once.

Frequently asked questions
Is UsernameForge really unlimited?
Yes. Names are built in your browser from word banks, so you can shuffle as often as you like. Nothing is sent to a server unless you use the AI name smith.
Does it check whether a username is available?
No, and we will never pretend to. Checking would mean scraping each platform, which breaks their terms. We check the format against each platform’s published rules; the platform’s own sign-up page tells you if it is free.
How do I make a unique username?
Add a word that is yours (a nickname, a hobby, an inside joke) in the "Your word" box, pick a style, and combine two words rather than one. Numbers work, but a separator or an unusual word is more memorable.
What makes a good username?
Short (under 15 characters so it fits almost every platform), easy to say out loud, spelled the way it sounds, free of look-alike characters like l and I, and not tied to your real name or age.
Can I save names I like?
Tap the star on any name. Saved names stay in this browser only (localStorage) and you can clear them any time.
